Riveria Bermuda
A seeded cultivar that outperforms hybrid Bermudas across the board. Against vegetative Bermudas and other seeded varieties, Riveria rates number one for general appearance, spring density, establishment speed, drought tolerance and salinity tolerance — with around 35% lower water demand than Tifway and strong resistance to Spring Dead Spot. Compared with Bermuda Tifway 4-19, soil cultivation needs drop by about 50%.
- Origin: A synthetic cultivar bred by hybridising three superior parent lines for compounding quality traits.
- Climate range: Mediterranean coastal climates and continental climates alike.
- Establishment: On the Mediterranean coast, sow shallow at 5 cm once soil temperatures hit 18 °C.
- Seeding rate: 10 g/m². Sow seed at 6 mm depth. Keep soil moist until germination (typically 10–14 days).
- Irrigation: Reduce watering frequency once the plants are actively growing.
- Maintenance: Mowing height 10–50 mm. Suitable for both rotary and reel mowers. Never remove more than one-third of the leaf in a single cut.
- Fertilising: 150–200 units of nitrogen across the growing season; phosphorus and potassium dosed to the 1-1-1 ratio against soil-test results.
