Roll-Out Turf

Roll-out turf is turf grown out on the field, mown a number of times and brought on under care until the root mat is dense and strong — then cut from the ground, roots and all, and rolled up like carpet for installation somewhere else. Through the hot months of summer, when seeding a lawn from scratch is risky, roll-out turf is by far the more reliable option.

Because each roll has already been seeded, irrigated, mown and fertilised through the growing-on period, roll-out turf is more expensive than starting from seed. The labour going into cultivation and the weight of finished rolls in handling and transport are the main reasons the unit price runs higher than seed.

For years roll-out turf in Türkiye was relatively unknown and demand was thin, so only a handful of growers produced it — most of what got laid went into municipal park contracts at high prices. As demand has grown, so has the number of growers and the level of competition, and prices have come down to a much more reasonable level.
